In civilized 1930's Britain the idea that a half baked former Corporal in the defeated WWI German army, a jail bird who wrote pseudo intellectual (but nonetheless tragically powerful) drivel, ranted insanely to glassy eyed followers and strutted about in presumptuously crafted comic opera uniform, could possibly present the august British lion a mortal threat, was laughable. That the proven dilettante Winston was sounding the tocsin made the notion doubly discreditable. To have taken precipitate action such as stopping the madman at the Rhine or in distant Czechoslovakia would have been beneath a nation as wise as Britain, yes? But the madman kept his promise didn't he? ("Be patient, he is coming . . . ") And then they had to deal with it, did they ever, as incredible as it was.
I see some of the same disdain at work in our country now. " Why, its preposterous that a handful of sad sacks, consummate misfits, can present a very clear and imminent danger to our precious children, wherever we may live. That we should contemplate measures as 'icky' as bringing guns, albeit in the hands of the lawful, into our schools; well its beneath us. In doing so we would have to agree with those 'gun nuts' in their rural holes. Surely less extreme and nonsensical solutions are available. We'll extend the 'gun free zones', yes? " Well no, its beyond August 31, 1939 now; the blitzkrieg is at hand and we must meet it. Our childrens' psyches and and actual physical well being are far better served by taking a completely clear headed view of the very reality. Point defense: defense by armed force, at the very point of attack, no matter the tawdry and unforeseen nature of the enemy, is now indispensable.
Those of national influence who misguide the volcanic outrage generated by these insanely copied abominations toward their purely political goals must be confronted. Some of them have ventured to suggest that gun rights advocates see advantage in school shootings. As much as I try to painfully put myself within the mind of one who would seriously contemplate such a sociopathic absurdity, I cannot see any remotely arguable rationale for such illusion. But that they would see in these hideous nightmares a means to advance their dream of totalitarian domination of our erring nation bears serious consideration. They know gun owners reside at the heart of the real America and they are looking for a good heart shot, they are. Jack

If you ask me, the left is playing with fire by provoking the NRA and freedom-loving Americans. As you have observed on many occasions, the left just can't stop itself from overplaying its hand -- thank heavens! The 2018 mid-terms just got a whole lot more promising...
Dr. Waddy: In having said that the left may well see political advantage in these shootings I should have added: the history of the 20th century left shows them to be willing to countenance mass murder in service of their goals. If we can help the real America to see this connection, then the left's reflexive reactions(guns! guns! NRA! NRA! Ick, ick!)to shootings may be seen for what they are: a cynical power grab for complete dominance over an America whose traditions, including the gun, hunting and true blue collar ones, they despise. And that realization would surely manifest itself at the voting booth. I agree with you, they are recklessly sewing the whirlwind and they may reap it presently.
