Democrats disgraced themselves beyond measure last night as they pouted their way through President Trump's State of the Union address.
Charles Schumer looked like he had just seen the Gorgon, the legendary snake haired demon whose gaze turned men to stone. But then, having to look at Nancy Pelosi might well duplicate that curse. I'm probably giving her too much credit. Frankly she reminded me of a vindictive sorority reject.
They showed themselves up for exactly what they are by sneering at the President's ringing and true affirmation that we are a nation "under God". They have over the last 50 years enacted their fantastically presumptuous rejection of that historically confirmed certainty, which they dreamily conjured in '60's dorm rooms, and it is as nothing when confronted by one as resolutely American as Donald Trump has proven to be. One is reminded of how the Church in Poland sprang back to full life the moment the fatuous Marxist myth and its brutal enforcement crumbled.
The frantic antipathy demonstrated by Dems against our President (whose body language last night showed how unmoved he was by their disdain) is powerful leftist baby boomer nonsense motivated by their childish inability to countenance any resistance to their unquestionable justice. They may well be on their way out but they won't go gracefully or patriotically.
Here I go with the Civil War analogy once again, as I believe we may be in the decisive phase of Civil War II: President Lincoln said of General Grant "I cannot spare this man; he fights". He sensed that he had, after pompous asses like McClellan and Pope, an incompetent like Burnside, an inconveniently and uncharacteristically catatonic Hooker and a needlessly diffident Meade, found the man who could discern and courageously carry out what had to be done in order to defeat Lee. The results bore out his judgement and the nation lived.
After a succession of timid "Republicans in Name Only" in the Presidency ("W" partially excepted), in candidacy (though John McCain is a man of consummate courage) and in Congress, the real America now has in President Trump a happy warrior - a man blithe to stand up for essential American values as he did last night and as he has demonstrated in intense political combat over the last two years. Its a historic and perhaps one time opportunity to return our beloved country to common sense, to bring a welcome end to this "politically correct "bizarre interlude we have endured over the last fifty years, to reaffirm what most of the rest of the oppressed world knows as it knocks at our doors, that the American dream is ever so real! Businessman/President
Its time to consider the realization of an idea which has intrigued many for a long time: What if a successful businessman were to move from that directly to the Presidency?. We flirted with the idea in the candidacies of Wendell Willkie in 1940, George Romney in 1968 (well, via the Michigan Governorship) and with H. Ross Perot in 1992 ( which ultimately yielded us the disgraceful Clintons).
There is a strong strain, in 20th century American thought and expression, of disdain for "businessmen". Upton Sinclair caused TR to cast his breakfast sausages from the White House window. Sinclair Lewis in the 20's cast doubt upon their value and values; Steinbeck and Arthur Miller denounced them in very popular works. The seminally disdainful Pete Seeger excoriated their housing product in his post war ditty "Little boxes, little boxes and all made out of ticky tacky " (lacking, I suppose, the charms of a 1930's tenement) with a youthful Bernie Sanders dancing attendance. And then the '60's: "Take care of business, Mr. Businessman if you can!". "Another Pleasant Valley Sundayyayyyh, here in status symbol land" (that wasteland where people who in the '30's could never have sanely entertained the thought of a suburban lifestyle insolently luxuriate notwithstanding after their edifying outings at Tarawa, the Battle of the Bulge and Chosin Reservoir). Then there was of course, the influence of theretofore marginalized college Marxist profs, with their anticapitalist pipedreams, on the monstrously naive and self assured baby boomers as they invaded the campuses in unprecedented numbers in 1965 due to the generosity of their parents' generation. Nonetheless, with unassailable arrogance though, many 'businessmen " persisted with their heresy.
Now one of them, a baby boom apostate no less, with skills he honed in the business world, has attained the Presidency and has manifested a truly intolerable tendency to apply those lessons he learned in commerce to his very office!
What characteristics would we expect of a successful businessman? Lets start with the ability to add 2 plus2 and get 4 instead of . . . . ? Having to meet a payroll and make a profit tends to encourage that kind of common sense. How about guts, perseverance and self confidence? The belief that sensibly regulated capitalist free enterprise has amply demonstrated that it is the most successful way to advance human material well being in a wide range of settings is most likely to be discerned . He or she will necessarily hold that a country which enjoys unprecedented prosperity for most who are willing to give the economy a real try is not in need of "fundamental transformation"by confiscatory taxes and suffocating regulation written by 23 year old amateur Marxists. You might even guess that the economy will prosper if the Federal executive branch is supervised by someone willing to keep governmental "do gooders" in check and allow business to do what it does best, that is, produce real wealth and create real jobs.
President Trump has demonstrated many of these qualities. After a year the economy is "s----in and gittin". Its hot and its getting hotter. Why, surprise, surprise! "Political correctness" the supporters of which have considered it sacrosanct, have found in President Trump one utterly unintimidated and it has them reaching for their binkers. The "universities" are bracing for a siege rivaling that of Leningrad and drafting regiments of counselors to minister to those psychologically savaged by having their leftist ideology questioned. The President has wisely taken us out of the dreamy Paris Accords and has unforgiveablely rolled back the Sainted Obama's theretofore unassailable Marxist attacks on productive economics including his "health care" grab for one seventh of the national economy.
Bring on the businessmen! Welcome back to the real world. Jack

The left: is it starting to crumble ?
Can you feel it? Remember how unimaginable it was that world communism would fall, let alone of its own weight? But it happened. When Poland and Hungary shucked the Marxist boot the almost unthinkable prospect started to look real . Much has developed in the last year in the U.S. to generate a similarly joyful outlook.
The Democrat party is of course, despite having some devotees who are of good will, nonetheless the vehicle by which the totalitarian left has intended to take complete control of our lives. Having done so, radicals would then do as Hitler did in the Reichstag one day early in his dictatorship when he turned to a faction of key supporters and said "and now I have no further need of you". The American left has been denied the road to irresistable power and to reenter it must disingenuously remount the "Democrat" donkey. If it fails, they fail and it is failing.
The party is led just now by the disdainful Senator representing downstate NY and nowhere else, Charles Schumer, a man seemingly born with a sneer in his voice. Tottering by his side is the increasingly impaired Rep. from lala land, Nancy Pelosi, though she has of late been distracted by her competition with Andrew Cuomo for "most hilariously pompous and histrionic 'orator' of modern America". Nah, these two don't get it.
What they ARE slowly getting though is this and its a catastrophic realization for them: Donald Trump, who they saw as an accident, a clown and a punching bag is proving to be a most formidable President and the increasing certainty of this even to them is turning them white with panic and dread. The rock has been lifted and the bugs are scurrying. Their frantic personal assault on the President is showing them up, for all the real America to see, for the petulant brats they are.
He pulled off the political miracle of our lifetimes by emerging from the very depth of improbability to deny the vindictive Hillary her dream. Had he emigrated to the moon at that point it would yet have been a staggering achievement reflecting all unlooked for perseverance, horse sense and strength of character on his part. His concrete accomplishments over the last year are well known to all possessing open minds. He is one tough cookie; he's been talking trash to them now for a couple of years, like all canny street players do and they've surrendered to enervating juvenile outrage at it ,while he sits back and watches them squirming and exhausting themselves. He made fools of them in this recent government shutdown fiasco and they know it.
They had intended to ensure their predominance by creating of illegal immigrants, together with convicted criminals as the Virginia governor has, a prospectively decisive voting bloc. It ain't gonna happen now: President Trump has mobilized the real America to where it will tolerate nothing short of a real fix to this fixable problem. He faced them down and then proposed a deal which is the framework for a very workable compromise. It may create more Republican voters than it does Democrat and it will, to the despair of the left, assuredly include the wall most Americans want. This is an appalling setback for the radicals; it may finish them. Too, much more humiliation is in store for them at his hands including the possibility of their disenfranchisement as an effective opposition in the 2018 and 2020 elections.
But the exemplar of the tactic which is their best hope is obvious. Slick Willy! He was dealt a body blow in 1994 when the blatant radical intent manifested by him and his grimly determined consort was clear, by losing the House for the first time since the Norman invasion. He faced the unthinkable prospect of being denied access to White House interns in 1996. His response was that of the essential sneak that he is, shameless preemption of what he was theretofore loath to contemplate. "Denahh, denahh, denahh, bybee". "Why hell, I've always been a small government man and I just love them cops. And as for them on the dole, well put 'em to work I say." Yeah, but it worked for him didn't it?
Look for the Dems to fall back on this, their last hope. That of course marginalizes Bernie Sanders, an honest totalitarian and maybe Liz Warren too. But Cory Booker, Kamala Harris , Prince Andrew and the sweetheart of the junior class, perky naughty mouthed Kirsten Gillibrand, may well embrace this in their quixotic crusade to deliver an unresponsive America from the thrall of a politically incorrect usurper. Oh, I hope so. Because, when they lose, they will be history. Oh they'll still pollute lost places like Ithaca, Berkeley and the once mainstream media; meantime President Trump will be about truly uniting this country in prosperity, common sense, strength and democracy and we'll be fine all the while. Eretz Tzion v'Yerushalim
I have just witnessed one of the most moving scenes I've ever seen or heard. Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and President Trump sat together and the Prime Minister thanked the President for the resolute support afforded his noble nation by the U.S. over the last year. He specifically cited the Trump administration's courageous and honest decision to move the U.S. embassy to Israel's eternal capital and the President's defiance of the viciously anti Israeli U.N. General Assembly.
The look of gratitude on the Prime Minister's face offered a telling contrast to the tension so very obvious in him when he faced Barack Obama. Obama's countenance, contorted with painfully and barely concealed antiSemitism, betrayed his hostility on those onerous occasions. An hombre like the Prime Minister cannot but have been fully aware of it though he was not intimidated. He did his duty and held on until the U.S. returned to common sense.
I know I too felt gratitude toward our President, whose suitability for his office manifests itself with greater clarity apace. Our relationship with Israel is an important measure of our worth as a democracy. I am not Jewish but I think it plausible and credible that Jewish people have a covenant with the Lord to set an example for humanity of how oppression can be constructively resisted and how human life may be positively lived. For our country to support this is as it should be. We are a youthful nation; we should be willing to learn from those who have survived the centuries and be blithe to go to the wall for them. And now, under Donald Trump, we are and I rejoice at it.
The phrase I used as a title is the conclusion of the first verse of the redeeming Israeli National Anthem "Hativka". I understand it to mean "in Zion and Jerusalem". May the Israeli nation , guaranteeing as it does high civilization, with all its humanitarian qualities, in a sea of barbarity and bigotry, be ever so blessed, inspired and preserved. With utmost respect: Jack

1.Cuomo strikes again 2.The mainstream press is defended.
Two for one today dear readers:
In his histrionic budget message, NY's burden, our oh so idealistic Governor for the time being, proposed mitigation of what he considers the negative impact of the new federal tax law on his subjects. He laments its elimination of the state tax writeoff on federal taxes and raises the specter of a consequent deficit in the state budget. And, surprise, surprise, he proposes a state payroll tax to make up for it. He says it would largely replace the state income tax - yeah right Andrew, as if you'd give up any tax. That a tax and spend Democrat expresses concern about deficits has a distinctly B'rer Rabbity tone to it I'd say but taking from those who earn pay and giving to the willfully unproductive, as is Prince Andrew's priority, makes a certain perverse sense given his radical outlook. There is another solution, Governor (though your chances of reading this are as those in finding a conservative in your administration); that is, cut state spending radically. I'll be glad to help you, having worked for the state and having seen just the very hint of the monumental waste. The inability to deduct your confiscatory levees on those who contribute positively to our economy will focus scrutiny which you must dread on your "enlightened" government redistributionist policies. It could cost you your dream of Presidential glory. For example, your "free" tuition at the state university system. Uh, do those Profs work for free now? Oh why don't you just issue diplomas on request for a nominal fee (to be waived for the politically correct).
I understand Senators McCain and Flake have publicly lamented President Trump's confrontation of the mainstream U.S press. I refuse to express any manner of disrespect for John McCain, a man of supreme strength of positive character. I very respectfully disagree with many of his views. I don't know much about Sen. Flake but he appears to be one who simply cannot accept a Trump Presidency and I think it best that he leave the Senate as is his intent. I'm confident that common sense Arizona will replace him with one who supports our President.
I believe Churchill once said words to the effect that "democracy is the worst imaginable form of government until you consider all the rest". Democracy is a yet on going experiment; God forbid that we should ever abandon it but we must be clear headed about its less than favorable aspects. A press unfettered by government has enabled a press captured by the "politically correct" mandates of the most undemocratic of forces, that of the radical left ( and theirs is a "government" oh yes ). The naive but multitudinous radical faction of the baby boom generation enabled this as it infested the media, the journalism profession and its schools and the laughably disingenuous flagship newspapers like the Times and the Wash. Post.
They have had the power to destroy careers, administrations and even the lives of those with whom they disagreed. Now they are confronted by one who, far from being intimidated by them, openly disdains their insane assault on him and on his electorally confirmed tenure as Chief Executive of our Federal Government. Oh, the insolence of him and how it bestirs their malice, like poking a wasp nest. See them buzzzzz.
Having been educated and cognizant since the '60's I remember when the popular media consisted solely of the Phil Donahue types, with their patronizing smirks as they pontificated on the necessity of fundamental change in our oh so flawed polity, culture and society. Old time boxers often searched their facial extremities for noxious substances to deposit in their opponent's eyes. It was gross but it worked and was at least partially justified by the assurance that those they fought would do the same. Finally, we have a conservative President who thrives on this kind of conflict.
That this is lamented by Dems is transparent, laughble, powerful nonsense. For those in the GOP who cannot stomach it, its best they leave. Jack

Hate
This is a rewrite of a post I put on another blog in 2016. Its timely now given the unrelenting, well, hatred directed at our President:
If there is anything which moves my gorge its when a leftist brandishes the word "hate" in haughty indignation. "Why we can't be accused of that" they sniff. Actually, the left is thoroughly invested in hate.
The word is a superlative used to describe the most intense of antipathies; in its totalitarian demeanor and actions the dominantly far left richly deserves the term and forfeits any moral authority to rebuke others for it. Being an ultimate, the accusation of "hate" ought to be used advisedly. But well, I guess it takes one to know one or to assume you do.
Radicals, the core of the left, hate President Trump, America, freedom, material prosperity, Christianity, Israel, the English language, Caucasians, western civilization, American and English law, American social traditions, rural and true blue collar Americans, all men, all conservatives and virtually anything else with which they disagree or of which they disapprove. Gee, I think those who purpose the imposition on the U.S. of a political and economic system which killed one hundred million of its own citizens and partisans in the last one hundred years are a pretty hateful lot themselves, yes? ("Yeah, well, we did get it wrong the first time but we'll get it right this time - we'll only execute twenty million patriots and set up 'reeducation camps' in the southwest; it'll be lots of fun.")
Nothing honks them off more than expressed or worse, enacted resistance to their pompous commands. They are convinced that they are unquestionably just and that anyone who doubts that is "hateful". They glory in broadcasting their own disdain though. Witness their parades celebrating , yeah CELEBRATING, their present legal right to dismember or to bathe a fetus in caustics as he or she silently screams. Talk about Hate! What else could possibly enable such an abomination?
As their views are the product of unproveable ideals for the unknowable future, they conveniently dismiss the incalculably hateful deeds done by their inhuman kind in the twentieth century and even today in hell holes like N. Korea and Cuba. Look, we all know there are many liberals who are people of good will; they should join in denouncing those on their side of the political spectrum whose actions are the very definition of hate.
"Hate" is but one more of the accusations leftists know intimidate the spineless. I guess its understandable - it does work for them. But ultimately they stand condemned to stew in their own, truly hate filled, juices. Jack

If I were President Trump here is what I'd say. . .
What I'd love to have heard our courageous President say to that insolent little pot of a "reporter"who said to him "are you a racist" (notice, no question mark; it was a statement not a question) is this: "Are you honest" (again no question mark needed). Oh, where to begin on this business:
First, the word "racism" and its little sister "sexism" are completely discredited by misuse and overuse since the '60's. They mean whatever the accuser means them to say. That begs the question from the accused then "what do you mean by that term; how do you define it?" Most of the time that leaves the accuser gasping for air; they are used to using those terms as reflexive dialogue destroyers and as all purpose automatic condemnations ( "I speak in the name of the Inquisition") and they cannot endure having to explain the terms since they have never contemplated the possibility of having to do so.
The reporter was a soldier in the leftist onslaught on our President for his having reportedly said that we would be better off attracting immigrants from places like Norway rather than " ----holes" like Haiti or some African countries. Well!
I'm struck by oh so sensitive Democrat Senator Dick Durbin's remonstrances: words to the effect of " well yes I was present when the President uttered his, oh I can hardly stand to recall them, oh, HATE filled comments, oh dear me where is my fainting couch?" I cannot recall Senator Durbin's having publicly lamented the vicious HATE filled campaign his party has waged against our President for having the temerity to successfully oppose them in 2016. And Dick's sympathy for those who advocate the ultimate act of HATE - murder - of our police, says much too.
And as for criticism of the President's crude language: This from people who went to the wall in 1998 for the Clintonian couple one of whom is a probable forcible rapist and the other, their darling in 2016, for whom there are credible accounts of her malicious expectorations to the effect that "----ing Jews" cost her and her grotesque partner an earlier election. Besides the President's language is echoed in a million beer joints in the flyover country the Dems so disdain. What, do Dems perceive that they have been bested in obscenity? Awwww.
Haiti is a terribly beset entity replete with harrowing poverty ( and all of its appalling manifestations - repellant sights, smells and ever present oppression both from within and without the neighborhoods) to the incalculable misery of those inextricably and irresistably enmired. They are victimized not by the developed world but by those among them who exercise unbridled sociopathic power. Positive education and devotion to a productive lifestyle is , in this setting, terribly difficult. By definition, such a society can produce few who may thrive in an advanced 21st century setting. And "deny, deny, deny, baby" like Slick Willy did but you won't change the reality that some African nations are awful places.
In contrast, a place like Norway, with a very well educated population with a longstanding democratic tradition is far more likely to produce immigrants who will benefit our nation. That is the priority our President has set partly in reaction to the guilt ridden giveaways of America blamers like Obama but also because he has brought unapologetic common sense back to his office. Does that rule out humanitarian aid to places like Haiti? Past massive efforts on our part prove that that question need not even be asked.
The American left is completely lacking in moral authority to chide President Trump for this remark. Jack

Virginia Beware of New Yawkas on the Prowl
I read an article today on Virginia Governor McAuliffe's impassioned campaign to empower and mobilize criminals in his state to, well, to enable them to support the Democrats, with whom they are oh so comfortable. 20 years working in several State prisons convinced me of their sympathies.
I'm a Civil War reenactor and whenever I drive into VA I say "wow, I'm in Dixie land". In so many ways its true; waitresses address me as "darling" ; I see roads titled Jubal Early Drive and taking me every few miles to places so significant in our history. But I also see the spreading cancer of "New Yawk" and I fear for the real American majority in Virginia. A recent election for the Virginia legislature would, but for the pure luck of a draw, have put Dems in control. Eastern megalopolis style crowding is obvious on the coast. The baleful cultural influence of DC permeates and pollutes its VA environs. Virginians, you are in danger of becoming "New Yawk" and being a lifelong resident of the common sense upstate majority of that oppressed state, I'd like to give you a preview of what could be in store for you.
Most of New York State is an everyday place with much more in common with the midwest than with Gotham. Certainly its that way where I live; there are no Dems at all in our county legislature. But within our state border is the political malignancy of New Yawk City and we cannot outvote them at the state level, plain and simple. Of course they know that and have no misgivings about forcing their foreign views and ways on us. (" I don't know from Buffalo".) They recently reelected a very far left Mayor and that says it all about them. Oh, I know there are alot of good people there but they are in the same quandry we are in and in which Virginians will be mired soon unless they repel the onslaught of the "enlightened".
The exemplar of the New Yawk attitude is our Governor Andrew Cuomo and was his father Mario Cuomo. His father acknowedged that 80% of NY voters wanted the death penalty on the books (not that it would be or has been enforced in a state where only criminals are privileged to carry it out, without, mind you, benefit of due process). But that was as nothing to him; he was a consummate liberal bigot to whom it was unthinkable that he could be wrong in blocking it. Andrew is his father's son and you may be getting one like him soon, courtesy of your burgeoning population of New Yawkas and like minded people in Alexandria, Richmond, Fredericksburg and even seeping into the country. They are coming to VA in the first place to get out of the hell holes so many of them (not all) have fostered in New Yawk, MA and NJ. They see that there are JOBS in states uninfected with the notion that only government can assure prosperity. But they don't see the connection (or the disconnect) with the reality that the free enterprise and self reliance so valued in the South is the key to that happy and sensible situation.
You are wise in Virginia to have strict term limits on your Governorship. You should defend that lest you get Cuomo III, who would regard the office as his inherent right. If you do get a Cuomo type (Clinton loving McAuliffe is only a hint) here's what you can expect if you are of the real Virginia and the real America: he has characterized us upstaters in NY as simply a "vocal minahritty". Actually that's a left handed compliment coming from him. Frankly, he sees us as insects; we are there to be sure but we must be controlled. That's what's in store for you if you don't act.
How to act? Give those from places like New Yawk and most of New England who enter your communities to know that they are welcome unless they seek to take over. Those of good will among them will understand. For those who purpose the transformation of your localities - resist them resolutely at the local level. Beware lest they infest town and school boards. Assume that if they run for office AT ANY LEVEL as Democrats that their own views notwithstanding, they will answer to the Pelosis, the Schumers, the Clintons and the Virginia avatars of these incipient totalitarians. Take your noble state back, Virginians, or languish as we do in Upstate New York - as subjects, not citizens. Jack

Good news for gun owners
I just received my copy of NRA's Carry Guard magazine and in it I found some of the best news, for those who choose to exercise their Constitutionally confirmed right to BEAR arms, since the Heller and McDonald decisions and the election of Donald Trump over the repressive Hillary. That is: twelve states are now what NRA terms "unrestricted" on concealed carry. That means unless there is some obvious reason you are ineligible to exercise that right (blatant criminality or severe mental illness) you can enjoy your right to possess the "great equalizer" on your person without a state or local government issued permit. I thought only Vermont was this way ( though I'm confident that Vermont, increasingly hostage as it is to NY and MA expatriates, will soon try to turn sharply left on this). I'm terribly encouraged by this news for two reasons:
First, it demonstrates what power we sons and daughters of the real America have. NRA has been vital in mobilizing and focusing this power. In 1986 only Vermont admitted that the 2nd Amendment means what it says and that it confirms a right by no means inferior to those confirmed by the rest of the Bill of Rights. At that time seven states required permits but had "shall issue" policies which placed the burden of proof in issue or denial on the state. That meant the state would willingly issue unless it had a compelling reason not to do so. In 2017, thirty states had become "shall issue". That's not bad at all, no! Its not unrestricted but it ain't bad.
Second, it shows what a very great friend we have in NRA. Yeah, I get a little annoyed too with their constant mailings but that's a minor thing. I mean, they took Slick Willy's congressional power in 1994, they denied fashionable elitist Al Gore the White House in 2000 by turning his own gun owning state against him, for crying out loud and helped send Hillary back to her NYC 'burbs to await indictment. Along with the liberal shill AARP they are considered the most influential lobby in our country. They've done the job for us; despite our numbers we couldn't have done it without them.
The President has our backs too. The appointment of Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch, who has already written in a Supreme Court decision that the 2nd Amendment confirms a right equal to those affirmed, not gifted mind you, by the Bill of Rights, proves it. This is "huuuuuge"!
NRA's map shows but five states now which say "well, we'll consider granting you your right but we don't like it and we'll make it as difficult as possible. But don't mess with the 'right',stated word for word in the Constitution, to kill unborn children though" Yeah of course, they are NY, CA, NJ, MA. and Maryland. In 1986 16 states forbade concealed carry altogether; today none do.
Here is the bottom line as far as I'm concerned: the leaders of the gun control movement, the Hillarys, the Cuomos, the Schumers, the Bloombergs and the Governor Moonbeams , know that no law will stop homicidal subhumans. Their opposition to gun owners and their rights, while enabled by their coastal loathing for our hunting and gun owning culture and especially its transmission to our children, is based in their realization that we who exercise our rights despite their self righteous disdain, are one of the pillars of the conservative movement. They know we support, with all our considerable power, office holders and candidates who are conservative on a wide range of issues. They believe that the passage of ever more restrictive gun control laws will divorce us from our organizations, destroy our morale and do perhaps decisive damage to the conservative determination to block their radicalization of America. They've always been mistaken on that; when they threaten, we buy guns and ammo , we join NRA and we give 'em a punch in the snoot.
Its dispiriting at times to have constantly to guard our freedoms against those who would surrender them (and theirs) to a totalitarian elite. But there are times when its good to sit back, relax and have a celebratory stogie. We are doing okay on our gun rights! Jack

America, we are sorry about Cuomo
You must think we in New York to be a pathetic lot, ruled as we are by the presumptuous Andrew Cuomo. Believe me, most of us are as one with the real America which dominates outside the borders of our "People's Republic". Draw a line north of Westchester County and you reenter our country. But most of the time we simply cannot outvote that tumor on the mouth of the Hudson which is his sole source of power. There are so damned many there! We did finally show his father the door in 1994 but so far the arrogant son stands invulnerable.
His administration is a preview of what he intends for the entire country, which he regards with the same withering contempt he harbors for the everyday upstate portion of our state. He has publicly sniffed that we are simply a "vocal minahritty". Of course he would not dare disparage any minority other than us. He's setting up for a Presidential run and I relish the idea of him pontificating in Newton, Kansas, in Jackson, Tennessee, in Brinkley, Arkansas, in Rockwell City, Iowa and all other sundry and uncounted places, including big cities, where common sense reigns. Wait till you see the rolling eyes, the cavernous mouth, the pseudo Shakespearean delivery and the dramatic tones. To suffer through one of his performances is to behold a man suffused with a degree of smarmy infatuation for himself as intense as to rate a charge of public lewdness. And he actually thinks the only ones for whom it doesn't work are that benighted "minahritty", because someone hilariously and obsequiously once described him as a "great orator". Oh heavenly days! But then, he may just stick to the coastal neverland; even Rachel Maddow is taken seriously there.
He announced today that he, through his Marxist Attorney General and the state executive branch to which he dictates, will go to law, in court of course, to prevent implementation of the newly passed federal tax cut. It is no surprise to see a leftist radical "Democrat" resort to the least democratic of the three branches when his sensitivities are violated. Oh and they are too. Because there is nothing which is to a leftist more unendurable than a, a . . . TAX CUT! YEEEEECH! His action affords him valuable experience in the administration of absolutism because we cannot stop him here in his fief.
He also holds, in feverish outrage, that it violates (gasp) state's rights. State's rights are about as palateable to an elitist totalitarian centralist like Andrew as cows flying over Woodstock.
I mean, one of the fundamentals of leftist government is to take from the productive(read: privileged) and give to the unproductive (read: unprivileged). At present, the only way to do that is through taxation (but the future may well open the door to other, far more direct and decisive methods: "be patient, we are coming, we are coming"). A tax cut is to one like Andrew like garlic to a vampire.
So he's going to go ahead with his hissy fit and we can't stop it here: for now he owns the executive branch in our very divided state. But believe me, in doing so he betrays most of us north of his fantastic fortress. We'll try to run him out in 2018 but we may not have the numbers. I'm confident you do! Jack

Some still timely views from last year
In looking over some posts I put up in 2017 on another blog I've picked out some sections I think still worth quoting or paraphrasing in 2018. The radical left, in its relentless assault on our President, and on most of us in 2017, is yet a very present existential threat to everything we value. I wrote:
Freedom is to the radicals who yet purpose the destruction of America a selfish (well, yes!) product of being - well - free, individual, responsible and deserving of the benefits of positive living. As such, it is to these dreamers, because of its human failings, unjust. Justice, they hold, is assured by the surrender of the banal and mundane general public to the guidance of an unquestionably virtuous and all knowing elite. Physical sanctions against those who will not submit are appropriate and would be delivered with dispatch. Completely centralized government is the obvious mechanism for such a state.
The Greatest Generation, its 1930's and '40's travails blessedly behind it, proceeded after victory, in an unimaginable irony, to give life to its opposite, a terribly flawed brood. An all too significant faction of their children has shamed America beyond measure with its casual liberal bigotry, its arrogance and its insouciant contentment with its execrable ingratitude. "Please get out of the new world if you can't lend a hand. . ."; it took real crust to say that to those who risked and gave all to give us prosperity (and I bid anyone who sneers at material well being try living without it). To the big babies we owe: the Vietnam tragedy; the savaging of our military and police; the disgraceful Clinton era; the ascension of the communist Obama; the very near enthronement of one who would have, in her terribly purposeful reign, probably closed the radical deal; the eclipse of common sense manifested in the rise of "political correctness"; the legality of the convenient and willful murder of unborn humans and the gleeful expectoration in their debauched media of loathing for a land which afforded them the most miraculous of childhoods - that undeniably critical time of life. They are a bunch of perfectionist brats whose influence derives only from their unprecedented numbers ( for which they can only credit their parents). They have immersed their country in their mess for decades and they have rated a good slap in the puss for ever so long. Now Father Time has given them one: We boomers are, hilariously for the anointed ones among us, growing old! What excelling mirth is there in this; that those who believed their youth to have heralded the dawn of an unquestionably advanced and exalted humanity - why they themselves to be sure - are now too pooped to pop. And to top it off, they've been brought back to the good old earth from the stellar reaches of Aquarius, feckless and unfulfilled and they KNOW it. All credit to that considerable faction of our generation which has lived positive lives of loyalty but the baleful influence of the ingrate bunch must be confronted.
So many measures destructive of our free enterprise economy can be "rationalized" by the "necessity of combating man made global warming". That is why radicals embrace it. They neither know nor care if the science is sound. Much counterpoint to the supposed human provenance of perceived global warming is readily available on line if one is open minded enough to access it. The American academy, cowed by the totalitarian left, is , save for those of courageous integrity among them, unwilling to consider such heresy. The environmental left seeks a perfect physical world, which is plainly unobtainable short of the mass suicide, save them, of which many on the left would approve. The history of the last 229 years demonstrates the catastrophic consequences of organized efforts to secure summary perfection in the economic, social and political spheres. The present reprise of those murderous power grabs by the environmental totalitarians must be recognized as being as one with past and defeated abominations of this ilk.
I often use the term "real America" and when I do I mean this: America means: the most benevolent great power in the world, the home and the defender of the economic and political system most productive of human well being both for itself and for myriad others (including subhuman totalitarian states it has defeated in costly wars.) The real America has engaged in painful introspection into its real faults and has adopted sweeping remedial measures, sometimes at the cost of bitter internecine conflict. To the perfectionist left, which embraces ideals based in the undiscoverable future, American human imperfection condemns our country to "deserved" punishment, extirpation and replacement with that for which the left has no evidence but which it dreams attainable - the unindictably just society. The real America, the very real majority, defies this historically discredited and incalculably destructive view. And for we who believe in the, on balance, justice of America, the path to deliverance from the still very present leftist curse is to overwhelm the radical horde and deliver them to the laughable margins of our culture where they originated and where they belong.
A very good way to advance that cause now(2018) is to support what Dr. Nicholas Waddy of SUNY Alfred argues for, eloquently, sensibly and urgently in his latest post on his blog Waddyisright.com. He calls for the appointment of a special counsel to investigate Democrat party collusion with Russia in the 2016 election in order to counter the Dems' vicious effort to impeach our President . Check it out; he makes a very important point - we must take the field and confront those who would destroy us and our courageous leader. Jack

Jack
