Love the old cartoon with that title. Whenever radical leftists think they have it half made, they show the real face of their movement; they do it every time Now they are talking about gun confiscation and repealing the 2nd Amendment. Some of them actually think they could pull it off. Why bless me for a fool! I never imagined they intended such things; I thought they just wanted to keep the kids safe.
We've seen this so many times with them and its worth noting that while radical sage Saul Alinsky bade them be deceptive about their intentions, in order to gain real power, he probably advised them not to overreach, lest they blow their cover. Like frantic children, however, they can't help themselves sometimes.
They've turned the American campus, where they really do rule, into an Orwellian mockery of academic freedom and integrity. They've turned much of the federal bureaucracy and those of several states (eg. NY, where I live and worked for the PC state government) into totalitarian machines. For example, in employment in the higher reaches of the NY executive branch its "Equal opportunity, except that if you're a white conservative male, you'd best not count on it, if you know what we mean".
Much of their vindictive and juvenile onslaught on President Trump is motivated by the volcanic frustration they have suffered from being denied what they openly and casually assumed was the sure final victory in 2016 - the enthronement of the one who would bring them to the very top of the mountain and an easy ride down to unquestioned dominance.
Now they are confident that they have convinced a decisive majority of Americans that availability of guns and not the moral Grand Canyon they have imposed since the '60's is the cause of school shootings. Assured of that as they apparently be, they "feel" (always a critical factor for them) free to openly discuss their end game.
Imagine the gun grabber policy summit meeting in New York City or Sacramento. "Well, after we get Congress back this year we'll pass the repeal. Now getting it approved by the state legislatures (as unfashionably democratic and representative as they are in those places)will be dicey. We'll have to con those atavistic rubes in flyover country into thinking this is just a symbolic measure, yeah. We'll promise never to come after their guns as long as they promise not to be naughty. That'll work; they aren't very smart after all, none of them have been to university. NRA? Aagghh, after we've run Trump out of the country they'll sweat alright. Actually, once we retire Pence in 2020 we'll be good to go; the Constitution doesn't matter to Michelle anyway. We'll just take the guns; Jonathan won't really stand up for his rights. eh wot?" "Well", says Andy Cuomo, "we flimflammed them in MY fief, I mean state, with our new gun laws; Jerry, you should do OK." " What'd ya say Andy? Actually right now I'm working on destroying the rule of immigration law and I was just beaming back from the colloquium on Enceladus (love that view of Saturn's rings) but yeah, dude, I'm sure we'll be cool."
Awright, I'm laying it on a bit thick but I think I've caught the general sense of the contempt far leftists harbor for the unrepentant real America. Those of liberal or leftist inclinations, many of them people of good will, have been regrettably misled by a radical left which would, in power, make very certain and summary use of firearms, that the ownership of guns by free and law abiding Americans kills school children. The radicals know that we gun types, as one of the pillars of the conservative movement, stand directly in the way of their intended utopian kindergarten and that is their only concern. Discredit us and they bustle!
Once I parked my truck in the driveway of a friend with whom I went on a trip in his car. Later, he said his wife remarked, with trepidation "why that guy had an NRA sticker on his truck". You know what, to hell with the people who would influence a nice person like that to think that NRA membership is notorious. Jack

Where those kids , God bless 'em, are misguided.
The kids who demonstrated today, stung to the quick by continued school shooting insanity, are right to be royally P.O'd at the decision makers at both the state and federal levels. They could, both long since and tomorrow, have been and be completely protected from this depraved but very real threat had or should those with the power to do so have placed or place sufficient numbers of gun armed guards in every school. They are available; every town has armed police, every state has National Guard, every locality in the real America has adequate numbers of mature, willing, knowledgeable armed citizens ready to protect the children. Lets face it, civilized humanity has often been compelled to face unanticipated hellish and depraved threats like the Vikings, the Mongols, Hitler, Stalin and ISIS. This is nothing new; lets just face up to it. Its a product of the "anything goes" '60's, just as the Vikings were products of Scandinavian fiords. Consider accounts of poor old British PM Chamberlain in 1938 lamenting, with words to this effect : "why how unthinkable it is that we should consider digging trenches and donning gas masks". That he shrank from the reality of the threat made it all that much more costly when the inevitable reckoning with fundamental evil came. How many more kids have to die before we do what is obvious and necessary and doable - protect them physically, right now, at the point of attack? The long term solution is a moral revival in America but that will necessitate the embrace of traditional values and that is anathema to so many in the leftist gun ban crowd.
The majority of the kids, at least those presented as such by the dishonest mainstream media, sincerely believe that stricter gun control will protect them against these attacks. They are young and understandably impressionable and have been led to believe this by regrettably influential , assertive and commonly encountered leftist teachers and administrators in the high schools and the same in their early undergraduate years. Some of those teachers, counselors and profs are of good will but this significant expression today of sentiment, opinion and intent was clearly very well organized. And that bespeaks far reaching preparation. And that shows the guidance of the vastly experienced professional American far left.
Its motivation is most assuredly not the safety of our children. How could it be? These are people who, in pursuit of "principles" they know to be destructive of societies would blithely have aborted today's youthful demonstrators while they squirmed in unseen and inarticulate fetushood some 17 to 21 years ago. Face it kids: those who send you into the political trenches today, would have scalded or dismembered you had it been convenient for them 17 - 18 - 19- 20 - 21years ago before you had had any chance to enjoy the lives you march for today They would have done it, had you been their offspring, if they pleased and they would have done parades celebrating their "right" to do so. They are using you for their overriding purpose of destroying our country by defeating the conservative movement which has unforgiveably thwarted them. They know that gun owners and their organizations are an essential conservative bulwark against dictatorship, both politically and, if it comes to it, by force of arms.
The NRA enjoys the special and ferocious condemnation of those who would severely restrict gun ownership, for its insolent and unrelenting defense of gun owner's rights. No wonder! Its perhaps the most powerful political lobby in America; its National School Shield program, which has been in place since 2012, advocates and offers expert advice on the pragmatic transformation of schools into hardened and unassailable refuges. If you haven't heard of this its no surprise; the mainstream media does not want you to know about it anymore than it wants to report the numerous incidents of guns, in the hands of the lawful, saving lives. NRA does report this.
Believe what you will about the root causes of school shootings; mitigation will be a long time coming. I believe its cause to be a moral chasm recklessly and naively opened by my generation (born 1945-50). That can't be remedied overnight but armed guards can be stationed right now! And that, young activists, is what I hope you will strive for with your justified anger. Jack

The President and the Monster
I'm glad our canny and gutsy President is going to meet the Dear Leader of the murderously misgoverned North Korea. Churchill once said "Better to jaw jaw than fight fight." (approximately that). I think wheeler dealer Trump will be too much for young, insular and previously unchallenged Kim.
Lets consider past meetings of this sort. Roosevelt and Stalin: this was a fantastic meeting of minds light years apart. Roosevelt was a gentleman suffused with noblesse oblige, one who had seen one violent death (that of Chicago Mayor Cermak in an assassination attempt) but never that of multitudes at his pleasure. He was incapable of fathoming the full horror of Stalin's evil. Stalin was a thing crept out of the deepest recesses of hell; the description of his death in Robert Conquest's Stalin: Breaker of Nations , provides a harrowing glimpse of his horrid essence. Roosevelt was, nonetheless, apparently charmed by him and this may have doomed most of Eastern Europe to decades of Soviet oppression. Had he lived or had he not replaced Soviet apologist Henry Wallace with common sense Harry Truman it might have been most of the Continent. Truman met Stalin but later commanded the Berlin Airlift and is said to have told Stalin's Foreign Minister Molotov "get your troops out of Iran like you promised or I'll use the atomic bomb."
Churchill and Stalin: that was quite a different situation. Despite their myriad differences both were privy to the hideous mystery of having taken human life with their own hands and had minds permanently scarred by the experience - Churchill with the sorrow sane people feel, Stalin with sociopathically exacerbated indifference. But it probably lent them some kind of mutual understanding. Churchill rightfully hated and feared Communism but knew the alliance with the Soviets was necessary. At one point in one of the conferences he bristled at Stalin's suggestion for post war mass murders and was about to leave the room in indignation until Stalin told him he was jesting. If Churchill ever thought post war cooperation with a man he thought to be damned was possible, he was quickly disabused, as was shown in his "Iron Curtain" speech shortly after the war.
Nixon shook hands with and smiled at the murderously idealistic Mao but both men had no illusions about their opposite. Mao's son had been killed fighting the Americans in Korea and Nixon was a committed arch antiCommunist who knew all there was to know then about "The Great Helmsman's" insane "Great Leap Forward", which had starved 20 million Chinese. Mao had the true Marxist's ferocious hatred for the U.S., the long time bete noire of that monstrous creed. Both men did what they thought best for their countries at the time and both countries were better off for it.
I worked in state prisons for 20 years and frequently conversed casually with people I knew had committed terrible crimes, including multiple murders. You do what you have to do.
I doubt that Kim has ever had to deal with the kind of competition a meeting with Trump will present him. Usually he just savages those who frankly disagree with him. He is known to possess a kind of perverse wisdom, for his age, though. But he's still young and experience is the best teacher. Trump's several decade advantage in that will stand him in good stead. Frankly, I think he'll play Kim like a trout on a line. He may charm the youngster, he may feign cordiality with him but how can any civilized person, knowing what that corpulent victimizer does to a people fully capable of prosperity and responsible freedom, think him anything but a sociopathic barbarian? The meeting may well be worth it though, for the people of all three countries directly involved and I am glad of our representation by our capable President Trump. Jack

Insurrection
The Mayor of Oakland, Ca.broadcasts a warning which apparently results in hundreds of illegal immigrants (even some criminals) escaping apprehension. Governor Moonbeam descends from the Fra Mauro Highlands to sneer that a Federal lawsuit against the state he dominates, for defiance of Federal immigration law, constitutes war against his state.
OK, its probably time to take the Governor at his word with military action to the tune of that visited upon Arkansas in 1957 and Mississippi in 1962, for starters that is. You want confrontation, Governor Baby Boom? OK. you can have it and you'll be dealing with the regulars. Maybe you'll call out the Berkeley militia, ehhh? We know how very much the military is revered in good old salt of the earth Berkeley. Governors Faubus and Barnett (and Wallace) can tell you all about it; after all, you are capable of travel into alternative universes to see them aren't you? Keep in mind, southerners decided in 1957 and 1962 that it was better not to fight another Civil War and southerners know how to fight, unlike the flower children who dominate your lala land.
California, you need a good helping of reality you do. I say this with sorrow for the many millions among you who are common sense citizens of the real America but are tragically outvoted, in the state, by uber idealists.. Our country, rallied by our resolute President, will no longer tolerate the defiance of our immigration laws, the most compassionate in the world, by leftists determined to make of the intruders a political class which they may use to turn America into their hoped for dictatorship, under which those luckless emigres, their usefulness done, would suffer oppression far worse than that they fled from.
Our immigration laws are informed by regard for the multitudes who understandably see in our nation salvation from age old and modern oppression (eg Marxism and its inhuman offshoots). But they also embody the realization that we cannot take in unlimited numbers and they are complemented by the increasingly clearly perceived view that we must not countenance the eventual numerical domination of people who do not believe in our democratic ways. Far too many of them have lived lives thoroughly informed by principles inimical to ours and they are encouraged in the militant assertion of those views by American leftists who would use them as engines of revolution. That done, all semblance of disingenuous tolerance for their cultures would be summarily suppressed.
Our immigration laws must be enforced or the vital rule of law is dangerously corrupted. Jack
