I really cannot picture a Confederate private or his Union counterpart, facing each other at First Manassas and saying " why, fie on this unseemly behavior, let us sit, break bread and reason together". Things had plainly gone beyond that stage. The same is true in the existential struggle today in America between the militant radical left, which yet senses imminent triumph requiring now an all out, amoral and unrelenting push to victory and the common sense majority which may still not sense in what mortal danger it stands.
I like Charles Krauthammer very much but his recent lamentations of what he regards as philistine behavior on the part of our President and of many of those who resolutely oppose the relentless leftist assault on our nation's fundamentals, are ill considered. We face a war of conquest, of extermination, with a transcendently vicious and murderous opponent, against the life of our national essence of free enterprise, personal responsibility, individual freedom, religious faith, free expression and the conviction that our painfully evolved American journey has been, on balance (the only sane measure), an uplifting experience for humanity. Upon the resolution of this conflict the survival of the very real American dream depends. Triumph for the left guarantees totalitarianism and the death of all that rational Americans hold dear.
The depraved onslaught waged by the American left on the very person of our duly elected President gives fair warning of what they consider justifiable in advancing their tragically wrong headed crusade. And of course, the history of Marxism triumphant in the 20th century assures us that the draconian outrages they could ride to power would continue apace into their reigns.
How can it be wrong to recognize this onerous reality, resolve to preserve our creditable civilization and do whatever is as necessary as all out political civil war makes it? To be blunt in our language toward the barbarians we face is a virtue; to excoriate them is wisdom. John/Jack

Who the hell do these sanctimonious and presumptuous leftists think they are?
Once again, they think they've hit on the decisive "gotcha". Surely the President and his supporters have made their heartfelt support for those who we know bound millions to both forced labor in steaming southern plantations and to extermination in purposefully wrought death camps employing state of the "art" technology, undeniably obvious, yes? No!
First those who level such damning charges must display worth in the history of their own creed to earn credibility. But that they are of the hardened convinced left or of those of good will who tragically place their benevolent intentions at the cynical disposal of the spawn of "Che", of Mao, of Pol Pot, of Lenin and Stalin, of William Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn, of Jane Fonda, of Barack Obama, of Charles Schumer and Nancy Pelosi, discredits them beyond measure.
What moral authority have they to attack even the pathetic and negligible cadre of the Nazis in the America which destroyed Naziism at some little cost? No more than one inch of metal separated my father on eleven North Atlantic convoys from premature disembarkation at the hands of Nazi submarines and the tender embraces of the benevolent sea. Where do they get the crust to maintain that "fascism" informs and motivates the common sense majority? Read the book Lenin's Tomb to behold a panorama of the mass incalculable evil done by those whose collectivist philosophy certainly does inspire the American left and infests American campuses today. They made the subhuman Nazis look like kindergarteners and promise the same should they get a second chance, in, of all places, our land. At their behest, entire "classes" are proscribed and if they take power, this means mass murder. History confirms it.
The President courageously defended the reality that some people of good will also donned the Confederate flag in Charlottesville because it symbolizes to them a presently positive way of life which faces unwarranted suppression. The left's determination to lump these good people with the savages of the Klan is disingenuous. Of all people, radicals embrace "realpolitik". " Oh please, Brer Bear, don' throw me in that there briar patch" they bleat. Jack

Time out.
Civil War II continues to intensify apace. Just as the first one did it frequently establishes unprecedented parameters for bitterness in internecine conflict in America. But an anniversary is marked now which must give us pause and good reason to dwell for a redeeming moment on its shining and perhaps unequaled example.
Its the 40th anniversary of the launching of Voyagers II and I. I fear I cannot find adequate words but I will try to describe the gladness and pride this inspires in me. I'll attempt not to wax too wordy but I may not be able to avoid it. One of the many sometimes undeserved good fortunes in being a boomer is that we are the last generation to have once looked upon physical examination of space as somewhat plausible fiction and its accomplishment as a still astounding development.
Heck, our country couldn't even get Vanguard, with its three pound satellite, off the ground for a long, painful time. But less than ten years later we had done the manned flight I'll always cherish most in my memory - Apollo 8's lunar orbiter, with its fantastic views, eloquent messages from that then unvisited vale and its brilliant accomplishment.
Another nine years and American engineering wrought that which in my opinion is the premier artifice of humanity (excepting of course the medical instruments and substances which have made our healing capabilities miraculous), the monumental Voyagers.
Their present realities are beyond laudable. They are approximately 11 and 13 billion miles from Earth. They have, by some informed reckonings, entered INTERSTELLAR space. What must it be like out there? The deep, deep cold, the indescribable sights but with Beatles' songs aboard too; what a gas. Every last minute of their 40 year lives they have transited tens of thousands of miles. I believe I've read we still hear from them and their composite portrait of the 8 planets from outside the orbits beggars my 70 year old imagination. The records they carry with information on Earth for (God help me understand this), alien civilizations, are said by scientists to be capable of lasting from 1 to 3 billion years!!!!!! What may be of humanity in such a time period is beyond prediction.
The astronauts are deservedly revered by level headed Americans. But the largely anonymous engineers, with their demanding and sometimes unfashionable lifestyles (in such tony places as Southern California, Long Island and Florida's sea coast), have earned lasting fame. My Uncle recruited and supervised many of them and I will always hold them in awe and affection. Just imagine, they created vehicles which may outlive Earth and communicate to, well, who knows who. The Voyagers have lasted way beyond their projected lives; this is the product of unrelenting and largely uncelebrated rigorous devotion to duty on the part of their creators. Just think, their product could be the last surviving record of Earthly humanity some day. What an accomplishment! What satisfaction for their often ascetic lives they are so richly due.
The wonders which we may behold at an incalculable distance on any clear night are beyond understanding for most of us. A few intensely discerning humans may be able to grasp some of them sometimes. The Voyagers, products of our very time, may actually visit some of them. What wonder there is in that and what great good fortune that we may know it.
Who can say what interstellar entity or association we may someday or, unknown to us, may already be citizen . Perhaps the Voyagers, which lived for a time with us, may be our first ambassadors. Just imagine! Jack

Prince Andy's world
In Andy Cuomo's world, which consists of his fief and the irredeemable nether regions of flyover country, including those in the Princely State of NY, disarming and excoriating the lawful and excusing the murderous are salient virtues. Too, 5000 years of real world experience with marriage are fit only to be airily dismissed. He does have his standards though; they consist solely in what HE thinks just. All else is dross - dust - by definition beneath contempt and well deserving of the tender kiss of his disdainful foot and of lip curling scorn projected from his narcissistic and detached countenance with the stentorian eloquence of which his voluminous and well used mouth is most capable.
The latest from his NYC palace is that he would fain make it a serious offense in his vassaldom to "incite riot against protected classes". And what Andy "fains", he gets, by the mark! "Protected classes" : aside from the obvious problem that term presents to the continuance of equal protection by the laws in our benighted union, it also strongly suggests that there are "unprotected classes". I seem to remember Lenin too talking about "classes" in a manner which proved lethal to many, many classes indeed. Though far be it from me to imagine I know the minds of my betters, I might think what our Prince really means to say is:"if you are one of the unprotected and you criticize one who is of the protected or if you criticize anyone who lauds one of the protected or her class or if you propose any action contrary to that which is purposed by anyone in a protected class, you will be denounced and after the customary auto da fe, legally immolated for inciting riot". Now we all know that it is customary for aristocracy to speak to us only in allusions so Andy cannot really say what he means without committing blatant gauchery.
I do fear that in Andy's ken though, it is impossible for protected classes to incite riot against unprotected classes. Mayhem fomented by the former and those who ride it to power is unquestionably righteous. It is reasonable to assume then that his proposed law is meant to advance causes he presumes inherent merely in being a member of a protected class and to thwart any political effort by unprotected classes which excites his eclectic antipathy.
Of course Andy's, uh, expansive view of his wisdom and influence necessitated his holding forth with dispatch on the Charlottesville incident. I would venture to guess, that in the Prince's fevered estimation there can be NOTHING acceptable about suggesting it might not be advisable to destroy a Confederate memorial or, heaven help us, make an effort to protect it. Similarly, it is inarguably right to make haste to destroy such obvious abominations at will and with a vengeance too! Thus Andy's present princely declaration.
But then, there is that always pesky Constitution. Well, the last Democrat President did not suffer it to cramp his style; Andy may himself "dream upon the Crown . . . but yet I know not how to get the Crown". No and neither does anyone else know how to get it for him - he has as much chance of being elected President as Kim Jong Un has of completing the epic 100 yard dash (though Kim would do well to practice it). The real extremist threat and the powerless one
Lets put the lie to this myth right now. Leftists would have us believe that the radical right - Nazi's, The Klan etc. - are a mortal threat to our country. But they know who consciously, powerfully, purposefully and relentlessly works to destroy America; its their own radical left, upon whose altar they recline.
How many Nazi or Klan types are to be found on "university" faculties openly indoctrinating sage sophomores with their screed? Not! Now how many Maoist, Marxist, Anarchist types infest our academy with their murderous and discredited "ideals"? Myriad. How many radical rightists have been elected President, bringing with them platoons of budding strutting Reinhard Heydrichs openly advocating Lidice redux and Treblinka II? How many conservative Presidents started their political careers in the living room of treasonous communist 1960's pukes and then scoffed at the idea that this might raise doubts about their own good will and good sense? Now, how many apologists for the Marxist insanity which destroyed the lives of untold hundreds of millions in the twentieth century have actually acquired Presidential power, esconsing real beauties like Van Jones ,Valerie Jarrett, Joycelene Elders and one of Obama's top on line campaign guys? Well, at least one; another, one given to blithe expectorations of antisemitic and antiblack oaths, was narrowly defeated in November and the third has no real convictions but was , due to his irresistable urges, blackmailed by his radical consort. The fourth, poor ol' Mr. Carter, was summarily retired by an American majority embarrassed by his obvious incompetence. How many Nazi or Klan types have killed policemen lately or uttered "F..K the police!" with easy abandon on national TV or carried very nicely printed signs advocating the same at coincidentally very well covered demonstrations? Why bless me for a fool, all of that is the spontaneous explosion of righteous rage; it cannot possibly have been fomented and orchestrated by professional revolutionaries. How many rightist radicals sojourn in the Deep State, carrying out their will and spurning that of the Chief Executive? How many leftists do the same? We all know the answer to that. How many rightists, God forbid radical rightists, find employment in the vast majority of popular entertainment formats and in " news reporting"? How many even conservatives are to be found on law school faculties and courts in places like the People's Republic of California and how many devoted to the presumptuous leftist Critical Legal Studies mob?Gee, it looks to me like radicals have a pretty forceful thing going here and any sensible person can predict how they would use it.
The radical right is a pitiable, miniscule and powerless faction, especially compared to a radical left which almost achieved irrevocable sway just 10 months ago. It is used by radicals as a foil to distract attention from the left's VERY real totalitarian intent. I've expressed already my belief that the Confederate flag, while an historically undeniable symbol of a slave state which had to die and which did die painfully, is yet today a statement by many decent Americans of their devotion to a relaxed, Southern style, rural, God fearing, tradition revering way of life and a thumb in the eye to detached snobs who would destroy that way of life with abandon because, well, they just don't like it. I think many in the group in Charlottesville who donned the Battle Flag were simply saying "Step off, leave us and our monuments alone. We don't like you and you don't like us but as Hank Williams Jr. and Skynyrd said, 'if ya ain't into that we don't give a damn' and ' just wanta be left alone' ". They'd best be listened to. They'll be voting in 2018. Jack

Charlottesville
The President displayed great integrity in having the temerity to denounce all sides which did violence. He was immediately attacked by the leftist press for his refusal to differentiate hate filled totalitarians on the left from hate filled totalitarians on the right and ,especially when he also lauded traditional American values, the collective radical sneer was manifest. The term "hate", when leveled by the left, is at one with other accusations they think automatically fulfilled, such as "racism" ,"sexism" and "fascism". The left uses them to stop dialogue it cannot endure and to intimidate the spineless. As always, if you then ask those of the left to define the term, it does a quick 360, right back into their snoots. The American left is the most virulently, viciously hateful group in America.
Their tragically idealistic creed killed one hundred million in the 20th century and keeps North Koreans in Marxist hell. I'd call that pretty hateful, yessir. Their unremitting onslaught on our President is motivated by insane hatred and vindictiveness. Their totalitarian proclivities, embodied in the"political correctness" amply demonstrated in those areas they already dominate (eg. the American academy, both secondary and university) and promised to us all should they achieve total sway, are characterized by withering contempt which typically turns to volcanic antipathy when questioned or resisted. They blithely excoriate an America which offers them unprecedented well being.
That the left is essentially tyrannical and dictatorial is displayed once again in its present fanatic determination to expunge the memory of the Confederacy. The South, despite having been forced back into the union, having its land ravaged, 300,000 of its men killed and having been nationally humiliated in the mid- twentieth century is, along with Texas and the Mountain West, the most loyal and patriotic region of our country. That alone, I suppose is intolerable to the coastal haught and elect. Southerners' cherished memories of those Americans who fought resolutely to defend the Confederate States are innocuous; they were beaten, for God's sake! But ok, lets take the left's fevered crusade a few steps further as we grope toward perfection: For example, lets eradicate the memory of the imperialistic and slave holding Iroquois, yes? How about complete denunciation of Santa Anna's tenderness in trying to save Texas from Anglo invaders? How about shunning American supporters of the Marxist savages who conquered South Vietnam? If not, why. . . pray?
Yeah, go ahead you overeducated disingenuous snobs - take on the South. Reawaken Southern resentment of Yankee arrogance. You'll regret it; 2018 is coming and Southerners know it and they will stand. Don't forget what they did in 2000 and 2016. They are nobody's fools and nobody's pushovers. They are hombres and tough, righteous gals . Jack

Effective techniques in treason: a colloquium.
I was going to take a break but this I cannot resist: today I read of a planned meeting of "liberals" in Atlanta styled "Netroots Nation". The report was in a very leftist newspaper so it may even be accurate. Promised are appearances by Al Gore, in which he will pontificate on climate and renew his expired ten year license for pronunciamentos of imminent planetary immolation and inundation; also emerging will be Elizabeth Warren, who we may expect to squeek and throw her impotent left in geriatric dudgeon. But this is what really made me swallow my gum: a workshop will be granted on "Resisting Trump in times of national emergency" especially that which would motivate the majority to "rally round the flag". Why, horrors! Really, I ain't bull s-----ing! With war with N.Korea perhaps at hand, the timing of this is somewhat suspect (isn't it?) Oh dear, I wish they had invited me but since they have been as presumptuous as to demur, I'll have to imagine the experience.
If in situ I would of course make haste to attend that workshop, where I would mention the passing resemblance of the subject to treason. I'm sure my inquiry would be answered in an objective and engaging manner. Then I'd start looking for old familiar faces and strictly "relevant" amusements ("relevant",now that's what we used to say in those halcyon days instead of the tiresomely prolix "political correctness"). William Ayers and his inamorata Bernardine can be hoped for attendees and fond recollections of facilitating the luxurious excursions of the Vietnam boat people and delicious reprises of the pleasures of extolling the Manson family's manifest skill in butchering the perfidious LoBiancas would be popular pastimes in their august presence. Tom Toles' spontaneous charcoals of cherished events such as the Challenger explosion ("those pesky 'O' rings"as he once put it) would be well received. The Andres Serrano National Endowment for the Arts pavilion would afford to all crucifixes well placed for convenient urination together with classic portraits of the Holy Virgin, fixed in proximity for accurate defecation thereupon. Suitable ammo would be provided gratis if functionally unavailable. Sinead O'Connor would be blithe to aid in enjoyment of these pastimes. Sonorous broadcast choruses of the expectorate on returning soldiers anthem "Ohio" would regale all attendees.
But there is a big problem for all this. For all that seventy year old Vietnam protest veterans yearn to relive their salad days they won't get much turnout; after all, those leftist boomers, that part of the generation which "felt" itself far too precious to defend its country, are getting too old to be called on and there is no draft. So their undoubted overriding priority in their epic resistance to the "immorality" of confronting benevolent Communist savagery - avoiding the draft and saving their asses - is moot. And that they were unquestionably just was proven by the election of the unimpeachable"Bill" Clinton wasn't it? Too bad they weren't 18 in 1940; just think of all the needless bother avoided. Oh well. Jack
